I was heading home from my friendly neighborhood grocery store in Wallingford — having just finished a discussion there regarding Edna’s latest weight loss — when I came across this disturbing sight:

That’s PATH’s Gena Morgan adjusting a custom-made helmet (suspiciously similar to the beer bong hats seen around university campuses) on Scott Jackson, outgoing vice-president at PATH.

Jackson is leaving PATH to become the new CEO of Global Impact, a Washington, D.C.-based organization that represents 58 internationally oriented humanitarian organizations such as CARE, Doctors Without Borders, Mercy Corps, World Vision, UNICEF, Save the Children, Partners in Health and, oh yeah, PATH.

Yet here was Jackson, at a gathering of PATH colleagues (his last official day at PATH is today), wandering around Wallingford wearing this helmet outfitted with cupholders, drinking tubes, LED lights and mumbling something about “Action Jackson.”

The Puget Sound Business Journal reports that Scott Jackson, vice-president at Seattle-based PATH and one of the most genial guys I know, will be leaving in late September to take the CEO position of Global Impact.

Here’s some of what Scott said in an email this morning to friends and colleagues:

I am writing to share the news that, after considerable deliberation and discussion, I will be leaving PATH this fall to take the position of Chief Executive Officer for the international nongovernmental organization, Global Impact in Washington, DC.

Over the last five years, I’ve had the privilege of working with an incredibly talented and dedicated group of individuals, both inside and outside of PATH.  The opportunity to increase the visibility of PATH and the global health community’s work around the globe has been a truly rewarding experience.

While it is difficult to leave PATH and Seattle, the position with Global Impact presents me with an opportunity to build on my passion for raising funds and visibility in support of humanitarian relief and development programs for the world’s most vulnerable people.  Global Impact has raised more than $1.3 billion for thousands of organizations, including its 58 member organizations (which include PATH).
